How to play checkers

This site plays English draughts (American checkers) on an 8 × 8 board, with 12 pieces per player.

• Red plays first. Ordinary pieces move and jump one or two squares diagonally forward only.
• If you can capture, you must. Jump over an opponent to land on an empty square immediately beyond them. Keep jumping while that same piece can capture.
• Crowning: reach your opponent's back row to become a king. Crowning ends the current turn.
• Kings: move one diagonal square or jump two in any diagonal direction.
• Winning: capture all opposing pieces or leave them with no legal moves. Threefold repetition or 80 half-moves without a capture or promotion also triggers a draw here.
• 2-player mode: take turns on the same device; online matchmaking isn't included yet.
